I have been with Comcast/Xfinity triple play customer for many many years. Recently decided to take the plunge and activate expanded he home security system. Anyone have possible suggestions to help me set up the system to be truly effective. Here is the situation: Current system only allows for six security cameras. (None of which are motion detection cameras. I have tried to manipulate the available rules to achieve goals however so far very unsuccessful. I have five outdoor cameras (all which are needed due to property layout) this allows me only one indoor camera application. I have placed the one indoor camera in A location which would video you need intruder regardless of which door or window was used for entrance. The only problem is it will take the intruder longer than 15 seconds to get into camera range. Xfinity rep informed me that the 15 second limitation is required in order for Xfinity to manage video storage limitation. Per the representative this 15 second limitation (Max of 150 clips Per day) was instigated due to the fact that many customers were setting up for 24 hour surveillance thus maxing out available storage capabilities. The Solution recommended by the representative was to set up the cameras for 15 second recording every five minutes anytime the system was armed. (Which in reality is almost 24 hour surveillance? Obviously I am maxing out my 150 video clips per day and honestly would probably not catch the intruder on camera. (not to mention the required time-consuming process of deleting all of the video clips on a daily basis) In my specific situation the six cameras I purchased are virtually useless. Motion detection cameras (in my opinion) would completely eliminate most of the complicated rules set up process. I.e. if the system is armed and a camera detects motion it takes video clips of the intruder. ADT Pulse does offer motion activated camera which may ultimately be my only option (switching service providers). I am hoping that some other user may have a creative suggestion that seems to be alluding all of the Xfinity home security representative. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, I have this wonderful video surveillance system which currently offers no true security surveillance. Thank you in advance for your much needed response.
