Re: Adding a door/window sensor to a roll-up garage door... Awesome Idea?

I personally have done this ....Step 1 I opened up the battery side of the door/window sensor. There are a few places you can put a screw through the sensors mounting plate. I then placed two screws in the plastic plate and fastened it to the frame to the side of the door. ( be mindful that you want this as close the the side of the door as possible without the door actually touching it during operation.) Step two ..put the sensor on its freshly mounted plastic plate. Step 3 remove the plastic housing from the magnet side of the sensor . You will see a shiny metal cylinder inside , remove it . ( this is this part you will mount to the door itself ) You can test your setup by tripping your mounted sensor with the cylinder you pulled from that housing. It is important that you clean the cylinder and the area of the door you are attaching it to with rubbing alcohol. Then I chose to use some double sided tape left over by the installer. (typical 3M stuff you can get at your local home improvement store) after doing so ,it is a great idea to cover that cylinder you mounted with some clear all weather silicone.
