I had the Xfinity Home security system installed a couple months ago. I would like to do a couple of things to the system: I would like to move the touch screen unit to my bedroom. It is currently sitting just past my front door on a half wall between my dining room and the entrance way. I was gonna add another wifi keypad on the wall by the door instead of the touch screen. Since the touchscreen has the only alarm speakers for the system, i'd like to keep it close by when I sleep. The problem is I doubt the wifi signal from the router will reach the touch screen if I put it in my bedroom as the router will be on the oposite side of the house. I know this for several reasons: The signal strength is too weak for me to connect to my own router with my tablet in my bedroom (my router is in a spare bedroom I use as an office right next to the one Comcast installed for the security system). I also tried to install a camera in my garage and the video drops in and out constantly. I also tried to move the touchscreen to my bedroom and tested the signal strenth, it showed 0 bars. I easily installed a repeater for my own router in my house so I could use my own wifi devices all through my house. I atempted to install a Linksys RE1000 repeater to work with the Netgear WNR1000 router Comcast installed with the security system and could not get it to work. I followed the instructions on the touchscreen for adding a repeater but it could not find the repeater. I tried several times without success. I reset the repeater to factory state, no luck. After calling Comcast several times and being tranfered around numerous times, the support people were of no help.......Some of them had no idea how to add the repeater, one said you should be able to add one, one tech said you can't, another tech said you can add one but Comcast does not support them, another tech suggested I try a power line adapter (If the cameras are wifi, how does a power line adapter help?). It may be possible to move the touch screen and get it to work with a power line adapter as you could plug an ethernet cable into the security system's router and plug the cable into the power line unit which plugs into the wall and then do the same with the touch screen as it does have an ethernet port on the back of the unit. Has anyone tried this and does it work? Has anyone who has a security system with the same Netgear router I do sucessfully added a repeater to their security system?
