I have for the time being, got the Touch Screen Controller working reliably with the Zigbee devices (3 door sensors, 1 motion sensor and 1 HD Camera). I have a very long house which forced me to locate this Controller in the middle. The Controller looks OK at this location and it tells me the time by default (I'm OK with that).
Now comes the tcp/ip side of the Controller. The Controller must communicate with Comcast's xfinity Home Security servers (controller -> wifi or ethernet -> router/cable modem -> coax path inside/outside -> COMCAST (which inturn is your (ISP -> to the Internet), plus e-mail server, XH server (a.k.a. Xfinity Home), X1 (a.k.a. TV/DVR/On Demand/Apps)). My cable/modem also has VOIP for my old fashion home phone line (6 hardwired phones). COMCAST has a server app for that (I get recorded messages, call forwarding, call history and Caller- ID (on my TV's)).
I am in exctasy just thinking about it. The wifi works great because its 10 ft from the Controller.
I am positive that, alternatively, the Controller can be hardwired/ethernet to "Port 4" of COMCAST's cable/modem (it has 4 ports). Port 4 is reserved for XH. I have witnessed Comcast tech/installers go straight to that cable/modem to "set up" the Controller and Camera. If you login into the cable/modem webmenu and "explore", you will see editable settings for Port 4 specifically pertaining to Xfinity Home Security.
I have NOT tried to do so, because there is a physical barrier (concrete wall and flooring) between the cable/modem and Controller. 2.4 Ghz RF signals (wifi and Zigbee) manage to penetrate this barrier.
As a side note, should your LAN (ethernet/wifi ) fail, then the Controller uses "cellular" to find a path to COMCAST's XH servers (I'm thinking Verizon for cellurar). And should your electricity go out, the Controller has a battery (mine Does Not because COMCAST did NOT include a battery).
As a further side note. The only reason I acquired the XH platform was to save $50 a month for the next 2 years. I must admit, that camera is cool and accessible via X1 app and my LAN connected devices (PC/Laptop/Tablet/iPhone). If I can get to the Internet, then I can get to my XH system. Whoppi Do.
Thanks for listening.
