I don't like the officially-supported Kwikset 914 lock that Comcast is directing people to purchase at Best Buy, and my wife would never go for the physical buttons. But I wanted to tie a lock into Xfinity Home. So I took a chance and bought the Kwikset 910 thinking I could get it to work. I quickly learned that Z-wave is not the same thing as Zigbee protocal. The Xfinity Home touchscreen didn't see the device to even attempt pairing.
Recognizing my mistake, I asked the vendor if there was anything we could do. Fortunately, the vendor I bought the lock from had some "reclaimed" Zigbee chips that were from other Kwikset products and was willing to swap my Z-wave for a Zigbee chip. I got the chip, made the swap, and the Xfinity Home DID see and attempt to pair with the lock. So close! But it came back with an "Unsupported Device" message.
Manufacturer: Kwisket
Model: SMARTCODE_DEADBOLT_5
Hardware Ver: 3
Firmware Ver: 0x3071c90c
Why would Comcast only support the 914? Clearly the tech is the same-- and the device IS able to speak to the system, but it's fenced off from joining by this error message. Is there a chance Comcast will support more Kwikset locks? In addition to this one, I am hoping to get the 916 for the front door. Nice looking device.
