Control Panel Ethernet Connection

I was having daily problems where my control panel would lose the wireless connection to the XH Router.  Since the wireless connect is apparently designed NOT to reconnect, I would lose all remote capabilities until I rebooted the control panel.

My solution to this was to connect the control panel via ethernet to the XH Router.  This has fixed the (dis)connection issues, but I don't have that network cabled in the house and so the control panel is in the basement.

My question is, does the control panel need to be connected to the XH Netgear, or can I connect it to my network (off the Xb3) which I have wired in the rest of the house?  When I called for support, I was told that I should just leave it to the installation tech.

Any thoughts?
