Re: What is the delay from smoke detector going off and whole alarm going off?

The security system works like any other type of monitored system. A lot of times, location, location, location is what helps in proper placement of the sensors. Air current movement in the house, is what drives the smoke particles around the house. If the Smoke detector is located where something like a ceiling fan, or say there is a draft coming in around the windows, that is helping to pull smoke to that location, maybe you need to relocate the sensor somewhere else in the room.

Here in Illinois, you only have to have CO/Smoke detection units within 15 feet of the sleeping quarters. With that, you have some units such as like the Nest Protect, that you can wave to silence when they go off. But when they go off, the nest servers will start alerting you on those devices you have the app on, that you have a situation.

I would say that if your cooking is making that much smoke, that it causes the smoke detectors to keep going off, then you are doing your cooking all wrong. Also if you cook a lot with oils or greasy foods, it will actually clog up the sensors, causing dust to gather and interfere with it working properly.
