I have six ICamera 1000s on my Xfinity Home system and would like to switch from wireless to wired mode to increase throughput and improve video speeds. Knowing that the iCamera 1000 receives power via its ethernet connector, one would assume it is POE-compliant. This would be a great advantage as I could ditch the six power packs and Y-cables in favor of a POE switch attached to my UPS and eliminate a lot of unnecessary clutter.
I purchased a POE switch and attached it to my Netgear Xfinity Home router. The switch works as expected and I am able to connect the cameras via the POE switch, but ONLY if I continue to use the Y-adapters with the camera power packs. If I connect a camera directly to the POE switch they do not power on. The POE switch and cabling is fine as I can connect other POE equipment and it powers on properly.
So my question is, is the iCamera 1000 actually a POE-compliant device, or does it utilize some custom quasi-POE compliant method of achieving power via its ethernet port? Unfortunately specs & technical information on the iCamera 1000 appears to be one of the world's most heavily guarded secrets. Even the manufacturer (SerComm) has no technical information available on this camera!
Does anyone have specs on this camera, know if it is actually a POE-compliant device, or has successfully powered it through a POE switch? Thanks!
