Wireless Thermostat

About a year ago, I had a wireless thermostat installed and my issue was that it would eat batteries.  One of the posters, advised me to install a power converter to alleviate this issue.  That worked until now.  Now the problem I have is the thermostat is working with the converter but I've lost contact with it on two occassions.  I can only assue that there was a power failure and the batteries did not take over.  When the power came back on the thermostate reset itself to 70 degrees.  Prior to that my setting was for 45 degrees as I'm not at that property very often.  I was suprised when I got there after 3 weeks to find that my thermostat was reset to 70 and the wireless access was down.  I could not remotely communicate with the thermostate.  As a consequence of this, I exhaused a full tank of propane with my 70 degree heating for three weeks ($300.00 worth).  Cha Ching!  I'm not  a happy camper.   Now this past weekend I went to the house and replace the batteries with fresh, brand new ones.  I reset the thermostat and have remote contact.  Two days later, I received a message that my batteries are low and need to be changed.

What's going on?????  They are new batteries and the thermostat is running on the power converter as well.  I know this because the thermostat was still running while I was changing the batteries.  Someone please advise.   Thanks!
