pet imune motion detector??

i am new to the xfinity alarm system when installed we discussed that the dog @ 17 lbs would not trip the motion detector

but as we are setting the away mode it always trips the motion detector and sets the alarm.

when i called the service dept they state that xfinity motion detectors detects all motion.

and that we should kennel the dog is this correct i feel that i was mis informed.
