So I've had this setup for about a year now and I haven't been able to hack it correctly to suit my needs. They do take over your home network when you have this system installed and really don't explain why and what the need is for. So far it's been a poorly designed money maker for Comcast as you can't install the system yourself. I watched the installer and actually had to help him configure both the touch panel and the wireless router as his skills were limited on the "Networking" side.
My challenge is the fact that I'm working with IPV6 equipment at home and work and my home network has been broken since they installed this equipment. They haven't upgrade the "Security Router" code or device to even pass the Comcast IPV6 tests. If I move my personal network above the security router everything works fine at home with my IPV6 setup. Beyond the IPV6 you are stuck in a bridged mode on your personal router. The current netgear device will provide the local network and NAT'ing services. I've used the touch panel to "Expose" my personal network device to the Internet but it still complains about "Double NAT'ing".
The setup that I haven't played with is putting a 5-port switch directly off the modem and plugging the Xfinity security router into it and then my personal network device there as well. I'm not sure how many IP address the home service provides and if you would be able to even do this. I know the business class internet provides several public IP addresses so it might be possible on that versus a triple play internet package.
