We have found one very significant shortcoming of the Xfinity Home security system, and that is that the touchscreen control is the only piece of equipment that will make a sound. Therefore, for instance, if I'm downstairs and the touchscreen is upstairs in the kitchen, and someone opens my sensored back door, in most cases I'm probably not going to hear the chime that warns me that someone has opened the door, even with the touchscreen unit volume all the way up.
I have spoken to customer support about this. All they can offer is a siren repeater that will emit a siren in a second location if/when the siren is triggered. However, the siren does not relay chime/warning sounds from the touchscreen. When I'm home and not sleeping, I'm not likely to have the system armed so there would be no siren trigger. I rely on the chime warnings to let me know what is happening.
Customer support has indicated that it is not possible to have two touchscreen units with the system, which would go a long way to resolving the problem since I could leave one on each floor. I don't intend to carry my one touchscreen around with me as one support rep suggested I could do. It would even help if the simple keypads we have near other entries gave off some audible chime/beep, but these do not. Our old Time Warner system did when we lived in another state.
Is anyone familiar with a way to add an additional chiming source to the system so that the warning chimes are emitted in multiple locations? If not, then I am left to conclude that this system is really adequate only for relatively smaller homes. For people in somewhat larger, multi-storied homes, or homes with a bit of sprawl such as our bi-level, this system is inadequate because it provides no means of reasonable assurance that house occupants will be able to hear the warning chimes provided by the system.
