running cable

I want to add cable outlets in three other rooms and will do the labor. I've done it before in other houses but want to know how Comcast wants it done. So my question is, do I run the RG-6 to the cable panel box where it comes into the house and let the cable installer hook it up to their house box, or do you want me to do it another way?

You can absolutely run the wires to the box outside and comcast will come out and put some fittings on for you.. And no doubt use rg6

WE're having the same problem - we can controll stuff with the touchscreen, but not with the iphone/ipad app nor via a desktop browser.  Desktop give this message:

"Unfortunately your broadband connection seems to be down, so certain functionality on the web site is temporarily unavailable. Don't worry, though, your security service is still working and connected via cellular to our 24x7 central monitoring station."

Wireless thermostat

hi, I just got my second wireless thermostat for my downstairs which has radiant heat and central ac. The old thermostat was just one of those white round dial thermostat. Hooked up the wires exactly like the one upstairs. The only difference is the one downstairs has a blue wire which I hooked up to the slot to the left of the red wire with the jumper.

For some reason when the thermostat turns on, it is turning on the fan upstairs which it shouldnt. The upstairs has a blower with forced how air using the furnace. The downstairs uses the furnance at a lower temp 70-90 then runs the heat throgh the radiant heat pipes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should probably have an HVAC technician look at this or experiment yourself...you need to have a 24 volt power source from two of the wires also...check out the other postings on this subject.

Well the thermostat that was hooked up before, has no power source at all. it was just hooked up with out even batteries. I hooked up the wires just like the one upstairs. The only difference is the wires coming out of the wall on the downstairs thermostat has a blue wire that connects right next to the red wire but has a jumper going to each.

Sounds like you need an HVAC technician.

You cannot just follow what the wires are on the other thermostat. The other unit could use different wires for different terminals. For Central AC, you need to go to the furnace and look to see what colors go to what terminals. Radiant heat is usually going to be electric, forced hot water or steam. If it is electric, it is going to be 240 vAC.

If all you want is A/C, go to the Furnace for the downstairs A/C, and write down on a piece of paper, what color or wire is connected to what terminal. Then when you wire the thermostat, you wire it exactly the same way as it is on the furnace. What is the manufacturer & model of the thermostat you are trying to use?

You may be better to post this over at diychatroom.com. There are hvac techs in that forum, that can better assist you in this.

Only if they blew the motherboard or transformer, if they did not wire it properly, or did not turn off power.

Exactly...this is not for every so-called do-it-yourselfer...

So my current round dial thermostat is like this

G = Green wire

W = White wire

Y = Yellow wire

R = Red wire

Rc = Blue wire

The difference between my upstairs wireless thermostat which works fine is, it doesnt have the blue wire like my downstairs thermostat. Upstairs is forced hotair, downstairs is radiant

my upstairs wireless thermostat is hooked up like this

Y1 = yellow wire

G = Greeen wire

W1B = white wire

RH = Red

thanks!

You cannot go by what the upstairs thermostat is wired. Especially if it controls a separate unit. What matters is how the furnace that the downstairs thermostat is going to connect to.

As I stated before, you need to go to the furnace that the downstairs thermostat is going to connect to, if you have two separate units in the house, and get the wire colors and what terminals they connect to. That is what you are going to use to connect the downstairs thermostat to the downstairs furnace.

You only need to worry about one system, so forget about the upstairs furnace and how it is wired to the upstairs thermostat.

sorry, both systems runs off the same furnace. The difference is upstairs is forced hot air.

If you are wanting to control the A/C from downstairs, you will need to get a remote thermostat unit, that uses the Main unit, which would be upstairs. For the Radiant baseboards, if they are 240 vAC, you cannot use a conventional thermostat with them and also control the A/C.

You can get programmable 240 vAC thermostats, but it would be best to work with a local contractor that can get them at a better price then you can, and set them up to perform properly. Same with setting up a dual thermostat setup, to control the A/C from Downstairs.

the current dial thermostat which is just a standard honeywell thermostat, run the radiant heat on the floors and the central ac. The same honeywell thermostat was upstairs and I installed the wireless thermostat upstairs. Comcast is sending someone out to look at it. Seems that there might be issues with this specific thermostat and being able to control radiant heated floors
